Honoring Legends: Chevron Championship Strengthens Its Legacy

Honoring Legends Chevron Championship Strengthens Its Legacy

Brittany Lincicome and Stacy Lewis aren’t food critics. They can make a great potato salad, but they don’t know much about fancy foods like foie gras.

On Monday night, they sat with Morgan Pressel at a banquet in Houston’s Post Oak Hotel. Pressel loves food and knows how to match wines with flavors. At the Chevron Championship Champions Dinner, she really enjoyed every dish, even though she didn’t use fancy words.

The dinner was hosted by Nelly Korda, the 2024 winner. The food was made by famous chef Thomas Keller. Lincicome said the dinner was “awesome.” She loved how each course had flowers and how the food looked. “I even took pictures of every plate,” she said. “I don’t usually eat caviar, but it tasted great with the fruit.”

Thomas Keller’s restaurant, French Laundry, was once voted the best in America. Not everyone there was a foodie, but everyone knew the dinner was special.

Korda said, “Chef Keller was amazing. After every course, people clapped and told me, ‘Great job!’ I joked, ‘Yeah, I cooked it all myself today.’”

Korda sat with Lilia Vu, Pernilla Lindberg, Juli Inkster, and Lexi Thompson. She said it was cool to have so many past champions together, including Amy Alcott, who started the tradition of jumping in the pond. “You don’t often get all these people in one place,” she said.

After dinner, Lexi Thompson got fitted for custom deer-skin boots. “I’m from Florida, so I don’t know much about boots,” she laughed, “but these are nice.” Later, the players hung out at a rooftop bar with Alcott and others.

Lincicome said, “You don’t often see legends like Judy Rankin or Pat Bradley. It was amazing to hear their stories from the ‘70s and ‘80s. Amy Alcott even talked about winning a tournament at my home club in Tampa. I asked her, ‘How do you remember all that?’ I can’t remember what I ate yesterday! We took a photo, and I’m going to frame it and hang it at the club.”

“There’s nothing like it. Just being there and watching was special.”

On Sunday, legends like Alcott, Bradley, and Jan Stephenson played in a Junior Legacy Pro-Am with LPGA*USGA Girls Golf members. For the third year in a row, past champions got to use Bentleys as courtesy cars.

Lincicome said, “Chevron knew moving the event from Palm Springs would be hard for some people, so they kept traditions and added new ones. The hotel was great. We got a helicopter ride, free spa treatments, and that amazing dinner. They really want this to be better every year.”

Korda agreed. “Mike Wirth, Chevron’s CEO, and his wife Julie have done an amazing job. They care a lot about the event and its traditions. I’m excited to see how it grows.”
